Zohra Opoku - In Studio Film - New Africa Cultural Initiative
In the Studio with Zohra Opoku. . There's something that happens when you spend time in an artist's studio, not interviewing them, just watching. That's what this film is. . We visited Zohra Opoku (@zohraopoku) as part of NACI's inaugural Preserving Legacies – Creative Futures workshop series in Accra. What struck me most wasn't the process itself, the screen-printing, the stitching, the cutting of adinkra, it was the patience. The way she moves through the work like there's nowhere else to be.
She talks about layering, about memory, about East German and Ghanaian roots meeting in a piece of fabric. And she says something I haven't stopped thinking about: "When the work is finished, the work will tell me." . Workshop directed by NACI Director (@orlandofficialle). With thanks to the Vlisco Foundation for supporting workshop production. .
